Nourishment for Body & Soul
Eating healthy seems like a no brainer, but there are a few important nutritional areas to be aware of during pregnancy:
Here is an overview (worth the read) of Healthy Pregnancy Tips from US Dept. of Health with some Do's and Don't's that you have probably already heard:
No Alcohol
Limit caffeinated drinks
Avoid raw fish, poultry, dairy & sprouts
Continue to eat in the way that already makes your body feels good...or if you feel like you need an upgrade or change of eating habits you may want to connect with a nutritionist. Your provider will also be monitoring your vitals and may give you additional recommendations. (ie:Gestational Diabetes)
Movement not only nourishes your body, but also your soul
Keep doing what you love to do as you learn to listen to your body to know when you need to make modifications. Your respiratory system may be less efficient as baby grows (there is only so much room internally) so give yourself permission to rest. Data supports that staying active during pregnancy will reduce your risk of preeclampsia (high blood pressure-hypertension).
Becoming aware of the changes (softening ligaments, changing center of gravity) in your body will help you choose the movement that will be best for you and which activities to avoid (ie:skydiving, scuba diving & contact sports).
Mindfulness may be a new concept, or perhaps it is very familiar already. Just as important as staying active, is resting your body and mind to allow for renewal and rejuvenation. For me, mindful moments often look like 'forest bathing'. When you think about slowing down to enjoy the moment and breathe...where do you see yourself?
Sleep can be very challenging while your body is growing a tiny human. Finding an ideal sleeping position and learning to relax your body & mind may become your new superpowers. During Circles, clients often share helpful tips and ideas to get better rest while doing life. We strive to honor the wisdom that each person brings to the discussion.
Wherever you are in the timeline of your pregnancy, we would like to encourage you to become aware of your options and feel empowered to ask for what you need. Part of your DCBD support is to validate that a certain amount of discomfort is normal as your body does the incredible work of growing your family, but we want to remind you to mindfully ask yourself "could I feel better"?
